I woke up at 8:30am and made a cup of coffee. Me and K talked a bit and then I packed up and headed off by 9:30am to meet Corinne at their house. Got there by 10am and we talked for bit and then made breakfast. We made eggs/veggies pretty fast and then sat and ate. We got to my studio by noon and and started putting aside shelves and boxes and random stuff that would be useful for Corinne's project. We filled their car with stuff and by 2:30 were hungry again. Drove uptown and went to a place called The Daily Beet that was by Corinne's work. It was a bit more pricy then I expected so I had decided to pass on lunch but Corinne demanded to treat me so I relented.

After unloading we stopped by my postal box and I checked my mail. The only thing I had there other then junk was an envelope with $30 in cash that was sent to me for an expiring domain name that I was suppose to renew. It felt quite ironic because I just payed 36 dollars for the last two months of having this mail box on the first place and this was one of the only things I have gotten in the mail in this time.

We went back to my studio to meet up with Damon and went through more boxes of stuff. It was harder cause it was the boxes of smaller important stuff that I had to really think about before letting them go.

On a tech note side I filled a bug for WriteFreely that I discovered last night and got a response from its founder. Thinking about how they responded reminded me some important issues that I hadn't thought about URL wise. I need to be more awake to properly address the points they brought up. But I am glad to be getting the opportunity to start this discussion

Today's Number's: I spent $7.75 at the New Orleans Food Coop on presents. Corinne bought me a quinoa and kale lunch and a coffee for $15 at the Daily Beet and I have only made 107 points on Duolingo Arabic so far. I will try to update this post if I can but the lessons got way harder.

Today I woke up at Sarah's again after the last week of cat sitting for Tegan. We got up a bit late and laid around for a while. At a bit before 1pm I went for a walk to go get coffee and got a little lost cause I was listening to loud music and wasn't paying attention. When I looked at directions and found the way I was meant to be going I ran into a large dumpster:

this was taken later when I went back for more (fedi link)

I was still uncaffeinated so I didn't want to look long but I could tell from a distance it was all stuff not trash so I took off my backpack with my laptop in it, leaned it against the dumpster and jumped in. The fist bag I opened was filled to the brim with jewelry.

I filled a zip lock back with jewelry and then jumped out to make my way to the cafe knowing I had to come back and look further. I got a coffee and made some posts concerning FediConf2020 and read my timeline while drinking. Pretty shortly after I got a message that I Sarah needed me to pick up Lila from school (and then I had to postpone my planning talk with K)

I finished up at Hivolt and walked to Lila's school. On the way I passed a grapefruit tree and marked it on my fruit to pick map (sorry its google maps) at GPS coordinates 29°56'00.2”N 90°04'37.2”W. I didn't get a chance to grab any grapefruits sadly but this is it:

Lila holding a large leaf we found on the walk home. two photos above posted on the fedi here

We got back to Sarah's house and me and K ate left over Hare Krishna and sat in the yard and talked plans for a bit. K was going to a potluck so they had to start getting ready and I had told Sarah I was going to clean the house super thoroughly this week so I started doing some of that. Sarah got back a bit later after K left (I am confused on the timing of this) and Sarah helped give me some cleaning guidance. When I told Sarah about the dumpster jewelry they wanted to see it all so I laid it out on the kitchen counter:

After a while of cleaning we decided we all wanted go back to the dumpster (me, Sarah, Lila.) We drove there and quickly found so many crazy things. The amount of fancy clothes in the dumpster was nuts. It was a fun adventure that took many hours. It was an interesting coincidence that this happened on the day I was going to help Sarah clean their house. I am tired now and I am suppose to be at Corinne's house at 10am so its time for me to sleep... Goodnight fedi.

Today's Numbers: I got 198 in Duolingo Arabic, I bought one coffee at Hivolt for $2.75, I ate a giant bowl of cereal, some random pieces of chiken, and left over Hare Krishna

What is it that a day holds? How does linear time fit between ones mind and the physical aspects of molecular space. The energy I have for waking up in the morning is coming from the sun either presently or slightly delayed in the form of the sun turning dirt into plants into food. The sun is still where all of our energy as humans comes from weather directly or indirectly. What does the sun have to do with my mind? It made my mind. It made it out of plants and time.

The world around me is made of matter. Matter is moment of invisible things. I want to keep learning and exploring. I need to keep injecting energy and movement into the network that is my brain.

posted on the fedi here

The photo above I happened across in Lila's notebook. Lila is the daughter of Sarah who's house I am staying in right now. What is a phone to a young forming mind? It is glowing energy. It is made of light and movement. We build this modern world out of crystals. We still have millions of slaves digging the crystals out of the ground by hand. When you pick up one of these digital devices you are touching the work of millions of people. The ideas and efforts and hopes and creativity of millions of people. But we don't treat this powerful energy with awe that needed to exist in order for it to exist in the first place.

Matter/energy don't come from no where. It is continually remixing and repositioning itself ad infinitum. That is the law. That is the way.

Language is this conduit between the physical and the ethereal. Where does reality begin and language to describe that reality end? Cybernetics is still such an important topic and the fact that it has a cool ring to it makes it seem less important then it is. The Ecology of Systems could be a different way to describe cybernetics.

I think I dreamed of being involved with School for Designing a Society when it was coming and visiting Dreamtime but I was too young and energetic to sit still for long enough. I should interview Rob Scott about their experiences at SfDaS. I bet that would be fascinating. Maybe I should start a podcast. Fucking corporations ruined podcasts for me somewhat. My association now with podcasts and radio is listing to ads injected into information I care about and then all the podcast “shows” I was excited about being turned into ad platforms or being consumed by Spotify. Maybe that is even more of a reason to start a podcast.

Number's Today: I ate one bowl of lentil soup. I bought one coffee at the Orange Couch for $2.01 (they charged me only a dollar (+$1 tip) cause I complimented their cool shorts) and we went to eat a meal at Hare Krishna. I made 189 points in Duolingo Arabic

January 11th 2020

I left the house briefly to meet up with Creighton to talk about them buying the bus. We were talking about them paying it off over the next year. I want it to be someone else's problem. Whatever its all just money. I can just sell it all and start again anytime. Time is the only thing that is limited. One life to live and all that. Imagine all that has happened in the last years of my life that only happened because someone stopped what they were doing and started doing something else.

I am quite tired and don't really know what I am trying to say today. I am listening to a random album that was listed on Bandcamp daily that is very good. I only found it cause i searched for the Bandcamp app on my backup android phone and instead of the app opening it somehow searched google and gave me the latest post on their blog instead of the app. So I was like em might as well press play. I was listening to one of the tracks that had a bunch of the samples of George Bush talking gibberish. It reminded me of getting all of Eddy's tracks years ago. Things to follow through on. Go save the DTV zine archive? I have been thinking of this for years I wonder what it looks like these days.

The amount of random connections that come back to haunt (in a good way) me later on is quite impressive. Maybe the main interaction is just a flame that lights another flame but that doesn't diminish it.

Somehow thinking of missed connections I just thought to look up Herbert Brün and came cross this video “Why Cybernetics? Or, When you might need cybernetics.

Looking them up I didn't realize how tied they were to the cybernetics stuff. It all ties together. Why I care about all these things I care about and how all these weird influences as a child came to make me who I am today. I guess that make me want to have influence on youth today cause that's the only hope in a future is if the youth are influenced with interesting ideas other then consumerist garbage.

“The world has things in it, but they're not there as things, the thing-id-ness comes from the way we assert aspects”

-from a random cyberntics video I just got distracted by, also posted the quote on the fedi

(update from next day: I was so tired I got the date and the name of this post totally wrong! fixed to Hendecagon and January 11th!)

Today's Numbers: I drank two cups of coffee. I didn't spend any money. I ate one bowl of left over curry and one bowl of fresh lentil soup.

DECAGON

January 10th 2020

Today I stayed in the neighborhood all day. We woke up around 11am and I ate some hummus and pita while we cooked lunch together. We made a coconut curry with aubergine, sweet potato, mushrooms, and mustard greens. We ate it leftover rice on Tegan's porch. K didn't get much sleep the night before so they decided they wanted to take a nap after lunch and I skateboarded to Pagoda cafe.

I cut up my ZineFeast Vol 2 shirt because it was so stained and gross looking but I kept the patch. I brought a Paloma's Moogfest volunteer tshirt with me that I was going to sew the patch onto. I got all the stuff out and was going to sew it together when I realized I forgot my thread.

Re: The Elusive Triple Entendre (post by bluebird) 'I've lost the thread' (this piece of information on the internet) 'I've lost the thread' (piece of string or yarn) 'I've lost the thread' (of this conversation)

I just made this connection. So before I left for the cafe, while we were eating lunch, I spent 20 minutes or so trying to explain what a double entendre was, and how one was was different then an innuendo. And how the sexual references fit into all of this. I forget exactly how it started but we were eating #🍆 curry after all. So the above tripple entendre was the one I had found and read out loud to explain the concept. And then 20 minutes later I literally lost my thread. That's pretty damn cool.

After I put away my failed sewing mission at the cafe some random folks sat down at the table next to me. I talked about webdesign with them for a while because they mentioned they worked with an agency that did webdesign for Tulane University. My ears perked up when I heard that “we set it up so everyone at Tulane gets a Squarespace!” and I was like wait what? They then clarified that they were just using Squarespace as an example of a custom host that one can set up on a university subdomain and that the system their company works on is actually built on Wordpress.

After I got home me and K started working on a website for them. Originally we were just going to look at some websites that they thought were inspiring and see where it went from there. After spending sometime on their friend Cru Camara's website I quickly decided we should just build it on Persona.co since it was the easiest place to get started on with what they had in mind. K doesn't know CSS or HTML yet so that was not really the best option. I am bringing this up cause I know what a lot of you may be thinking, why is a person who cares about decentralization and federation showing someone how to use centralized website builders not self hosted static folder based etc. And to you I say: how many of you are still using GitHib because it's the most convenient even though you disagree with it intellectually.

Anyway!

I bring you:

FILTHY.OOO

this is the home page

and this is the about page

(Also a post on the fedi about it here.)

While K was working on the website I made lentil soup and a pot of rice. We took a break and ate together. Oh and sometime in the midst of all this my friend Adam (whom I went to high school with) stopped by to deliver a package from Wisconsin to Tegan (whomst I also went to high school with) and I filled them in on my recent fediverse 'work' and explained some recent fediverse drama like the Gab situation and some info-sec stuff.

The last thing I did (which is actually out of order I did this much earlier in the night) is send an email to a MissKey contributor to see if they would be interested in helping me figure out some issues getting funding for the main MissKey developer Shinoda Eiji. I had actually sent the email a few days ago, but I sent it to the wrong person!

It is almost 3am here in New Orleans and I need to get to sleep. Good night internet!

Today's Numbers: I made 178 in Arabic Duolingo, I bought a coffee (with a free refill) for $2.20 and I bought K a cookie also for $2.20

ENNEAGON

January 9th 2020

I was doing some research into the German pronoun Xr. and discovered the 3rd person singular pronoun 𓆑 in Egyptian Hieroglyphics and came to see that there are 9 counting dot symbols already encoded in same unicode block:

𓃉 𓃊 𓃋 𓃌 𓃍 𓃎 𓃏 𓃐 𓃑

I want to go back and add these to the titles of the last 8 posts since this is the ninth there is one for each. I don't know what that does but somehow it adds something special.

I have still been thinking about some sort of time tracker that uses special shapes that are “collectable” to help motivate me to do things repeatedly for a set amount of time. I have been thinking about this on and off since it first hit me in Berlin earlier this year. I guess I should really mock up a visual of what I am thinking. I think Eilis is the only person I have tried to explain this to. Though it probably comes to me through Paloma drawing platonic solids on everything.

I want to be able to write about my ideas in a way that is digestible to many other humans, and approachable in non computery way. I read so much information and feel so grateful people take the time to explain things in words to others. I would be in another world entirely if it wern't for work of millions of people sitting down and making their ethereal thoughts into a physical form. Something with little shapes either through light and electrons or paper and ink.

I did a few errands today. Firstly, meeting Monica at my studio and pulling out my special shelf I had built for all my books at NOOLAB. I donated it to Cats Claw and Monica was picking it up...

I just discovered they have a Patreon and became their third patron... (also made a sharable post about this on the fedi)

After that was all done me and K went to Des so I could meet up with Kat (my studio mate) cause they are interested in buying Paloma and I's old Datsun. I showed them the deal and they seemed interested and will let me know...

While we were there me and K picked a bunch more mustard greens. The last time we picked them we ate greens every day for like a week it was great. Then I drove K back to the house and rushed to pick up Lila. I was asked to “baby sit” today so their mother could work late. I cooked us some food and we watched a few internet videos together. Lila picked the first one which was about a talking cat who goes to court only to meow at the judge and then I picked the second one (fedi link) about Precious Plastic V4 launch.

Lila showed me their awesome drawings and I asked if I could take a few pictures of them. also posted on the fedi with more pictures

Still need to add some more focus to the content of this blog. But I need focus to focus my focus. How meta.

Today's Numbers: 171 on Arabic Duolingo, bought a a coffee at Pagoda (and a cookie for K) for $4.68.

January 8th 2020

Woke up to a mission of getting K's computer from the Apple Store in Lakeview. Originally we were going to borrow Sarah's other car cause its “less dirty” but when I looked up directions I had realized it would mean driving an extra 30 or so minutes out of the way cause of traffic. So we took the Jeep back there. I am getting pretty comfortable driving stick which is an exciting new thing. From staying in Detroit 6 months ago to now there is a massive difference. If I was in Detroit again I could zoom around town just fine I think.

I guess I need to take programming seriously soon. I have known for ages that I want to be able to do that so I don't know what is holding me back. I think I just get scared of things I have thought about for too long and then never did anything about.

While at the Apple Store I played with a new iPhone for a while while we were waiting and took some pictures.

I went over to Sunny's house cause they made pho, chatted for a while and then went to my studio to meet up with Corinne and Damon. They came over to look at stuff I was getting rid of.

I don't know what I am talking about really and its late so I guess I will just stop there. I was gonna work on deciding some things I am trying to cover in this blog for this week but I guess that can wait till another day.

If I just start writing more and more I will get more comfortable creating “content”

Today's Numbers: I bought one cup of coffee at Pagoda Cafe for $2.48 I made 159 points in Duolingo Arabic. I ate a bowl of rice with XO sauce. I spent $7.50 on fries and a PBR at Bar Redux with K

HEPTAGON

January 7th 2020

I just sat down with headphones and listened to an album by SHXCXCHCXSH on repeat to get over my fear of buying flights. I ended up purchasing a Norwegian Air ticket from Fort Lauderdale (basically Miami) to Paris for $155.50 and then I bought another ticket on Spirit Air for $26.40 from leaving New Orleans at 6:47 PM on January 22nd and arriving in Fort Lauderdale at 9:40 PM that night. I am going to try to hang out with my friend Angel who I was really bummed I didn't get to see when I missed Art Basel. The next day I will catch the 7:15pm flight from Fort Lauderdale to France. I will arrive at 9:35am the next day at Charles De Gaulle Airport, which is outside of Paris. Maybe I will try to spend the night there and hang out with Koo Des. I haven't got my connection to Berlin from there yet but that part is easy and should be covered by the festival I am helping at. I will make an official post about that sooner then later. I am still uncertain if I am allowed to talk about it publicly.

I burnt an English muffin earlier today and took a picture of it cause it was pretty, (posted on the fedi here)

As a cropped image it made a good background for my phone (picture on the fedi.)

This morning at Pagoda I sewed on most of the other knee onto the pants I am fixing.

Ok this seems like it qualifies as a blog post. It's bigger then a microblog post so that means it counts! And it has links!

Number's Today: I made 150 points on Arabic Duolingo. I spent $2.48 on coffee at Pagoda cafe. I also bought two plane tickets for a total of $181.90, I had one bowl of soup that K made, I ate 2 English muffins, I forget what else.

HEXAGON

January 6th 2020

Woke up around 11am and made coffee (and matcha for K) and sat on Tegan's porch to drink it. After coffee I heated up leftover Hare Krishna food and ate that for early lunch. We went for a walk randomly around the neighborhood.

K took this picture of me in front of a silly sign. (also posted here)

We talked about our plans and how to move our bodies into the future and how to make our desires a reality. I don't know how the day went by so fast actually. We got back in mid afternoon and I was reading about Kurdistan and looking at cute pictures of Abdullah Öcalan holding doves. Later on in the evening we drove to Sneaky Pickle and K got an order of Fries. I wasn't going to have any but of course I did anyway cause they have such good hot sauce.

After fries we drove to Mardi Gras Zone and wondered around for a while. I bought some english muffins and they weren't in the database of products on sale and the cashier was really confused and then started googling how much english muffins sell for and just made up a random number to sell them to me for.

(update: there were pears in the smoothie says K from bed)

Today's Numbers: I made 134 points on Duolingo Arabic, K gave me a banana peanut butter almond milk smoothie, I spent $4.68 on canned pumpkin and english muffins at Mardi Gras Zone

PENTAGON

January 5th 2020

Today I woke up at two thirty pm, first time I have slept in, in a while. And the first sleeping in in a year. I was out late last night at Poor Boys catching up with Sarah. It was nice to be out late. I went and got a coffee as soon as I was all up and about. When I got to Pagoda it was in the process of closing. I asked if they had any coffee left and the barista was like “Heyyyy you're back!” and I was confused. They replied that we met at Hare Krishna temple a the day before I left for Berlin 6 months ago. They had remembered we watched a bird come and steal some food off a plate there. The cafe was out of normal drip coffee so they were kind to offer to make me an Americano for the same price. I had brought my own (well Tegans) cup with. I took the hot coffee and put it between my legs as I sat down in the Jeep and tried to drive. Of course it was too full and I poured some on my crotch right away and it hurt a bit.

I drove back to Sarah's house to get K. Charged phones for a bit and K got ready and we drove back across town. We were gonna practice driving in the parking lot of the music box, but when we got there, there were too many cars in it. Oh before that we got fries at Sneaky Pickle and I tried to explain Rojava and Kurdistan to K for pretty much the whole time we were there. I need to spend some more time reading about Rojava, I have been out of the loop the past year. I hope 'J' is okay, its been a while since we talked and we had vague plans to meet up in CA. 'J' being my friend who went to Rojava to help teach.

This image has been getting people banned on Twitter for some reason. Just injecting it here cause it seems appropriate. #NoWarOnIran, also posted to the fedi

We ended up driving to a parking lot by the Cajun Tomato Sauce wall and practiced for 30 minutes or so. After we stopped at my studio for a bit and I took this picture while looking through some stuff.

I wanted to bring my scanner to Sarah's so we could scan our recent art there but I forgot to grab it, which was funny because it was why I went there in the first place. K went through a box of power cords looking for a 7.5v DC transformer so they could use my keyboard but sadly the keyboard wasn't working even when plugged in. Have to look into why, something is wrong with it since last time I used it.

We are back at Tegan's house now and I am just trying to finish up the days activities that I am committed to, like this here writing.

(update the next day: I called this post Hexagon but hex is six not five lol)

Today's Numbers: Did 131 points on Arabic Duolingo, spent $3.48 on a coffee at Pagoda Cafe, ate a large curry for free at the Hare Krishna temple, and shared a fries with K at Sneaky Pickle
